Add a remote MCP server

OpenCode distinguishes local MCP commands from remote servers. Hombee Home MCP must be configured as a remote server.

  1. Open the OpenCode configuration used by your project or user profile.
  2. Add an MCP entry named hombee with type set to remote.
  3. Set url to the public Home MCP address ending in /mcp.
  4. Keep OAuth enabled and save the configuration.
  5. Run the MCP authentication command for hombee shown by your installed OpenCode version.
  6. Complete Hombee sign-in in the browser and return to OpenCode.
  7. Inspect MCP status and confirm that Hombee tools are available.

OpenCode’s command name has changed across releases, so prefer the help output from the installed version over copying a command from an older article. Never replace the supported OAuth flow with a browser session stored in the project.

Verify Home Assistant from OpenCode

Use a read-only prompt:

Through the hombee MCP server, list Home Assistant rooms and available tool categories. Do not modify state.

Review the tool name and arguments before approval. If OpenCode can use tools automatically, keep automatic approval off for any Hombee operation that can change state or affect external systems.

OpenCode troubleshooting

  • If OpenCode tries to start a process, verify that the entry uses remote, not local.
  • If authentication commands differ from this guide, use the current built-in MCP help and authenticate the exact configured server name.
  • If the status is connected but tools are missing, restart the session to repeat discovery and verify Hombee installation access.
  • If configuration is shared, remove personal authorization data before committing it.
