Choose the Claude product
Anthropic exposes MCP in several products, including Claude on the web, Claude Desktop and Claude Code. Use a product that supports a remote HTTP MCP server and your organization policy. This guide uses one Hombee connection; do not create separate credentials for every Claude product.
Add the remote Home MCP server
- Copy the public Hombee Home MCP URL ending in
/mcp. - In Claude or Claude Desktop, open connector settings and add a custom remote connector named Hombee Home MCP.
- In Claude Code, add a remote HTTP MCP server at project or user scope. Choose user scope only if every project on the computer may access the home tools.
- Enter the Home MCP URL and begin authorization.
- Complete the browser sign-in with the Hombee account assigned to the target installation.
- Return to Claude and inspect the tools discovered for the connection.
Keep the endpoint in configuration, not in prompts. Do not add authorization headers or copy browser session values unless Hombee documentation explicitly requires a supported credential mechanism.
Verify Home Assistant through Claude
Use a read-only first request:
Use Hombee Home MCP to describe the currently available Home Assistant rooms and device categories. Do not call any state-changing tool.
Before using a tool, Claude identifies the Hombee server. Compare the returned installation context with the Hombee app. Tool availability can differ between accounts because Home MCP matches the tool list to permissions and installed modules.
For an action, ask Claude to state the exact room, target and requested new state before it calls the tool. If the client supports per-tool confirmation, keep it enabled for state-changing and external operations.
Claude-specific troubleshooting
- If Claude Desktop sees the connector but Claude Code does not, check which configuration scope contains the server.
- If a team member cannot see the connector, verify organization policy and whether the connector was configured privately or for the organization.
- If authorization opens under the wrong Hombee account, sign out in the browser flow and reconnect instead of copying credentials between accounts.
- If Claude reports no matching tool, inspect the discovered list before rewriting the prompt. The capability may be absent from that installation.
