Control and diagnose a device

Check the reported state, send one deliberate command and verify the resulting device state before repeating an action or reporting a fault.

Use the room context

Open the room or system that contains the device and check its current reported state. A stale value and an unavailable control are different signals.

Verify one action

  1. Send one deliberate command.
  2. Wait for the interface to show whether the request was accepted or rejected.
  3. Check the resulting state instead of relying only on the button animation.
  4. Avoid rapidly repeating the command; queued changes can obscure the original problem.

If several unrelated devices stop updating at once, continue with connection and synchronization. If only one device is affected, record its room, displayed state and the time of the test.
